Task-ambient lighting uses a low level of general of "ambient" lighting in a uniform distribution (for simple tasks), supplemented by locally-controllable desk lamps (for more demanding tasks).

Task-ambient lighting has many advantages, but must be well designed.

Under cabinet lighting is useful for eliminating shadows underneath cabinets in cubicles. Their use for task lighting is not encouraged because of problems that can occur due to their location.
